Baptism of the Holy Spirit

For years people have confused baptism of the Holy Spirit with fullness of the Holy Spirit.  This confusion is quite understandable for several reasons:

In three places the book of Acts in the Bible (2:1-13; 10:44-46; 19:1-7) shows people speaking in tongues when they receive the Holy Spirit.  Therefore, some have interpreted this… Continue reading

Paul Baloche at Powerhouse

There is a very exciting opportunity for men coming up on Friday morning, May 18th. Powerhouse is proud to welcome the guys from NCS (New Canaan Society), a nationwide men’s ministry, as they bring their Friday morning men’s breakfast to Powerhouse! Their very special guest is Paul Baloche – an internationally recognized worship leader, songwriter and teacher. Paul Baloche has written many of the church’s most popular worship songs including Today Is The Day, Hosanna, Open The Eyes Of My Heart and Above All. Breakfast starts at 6:30am (admission is free) and will end promptly at 8:00am. Paul will have his full band with him and will be opening up God’s Word after leading us in worship. This one is not to be missed! And remember, this is for men only! Don’t worry ladies, if you feel left out, Paul will be performing a full concert at Hawthorne Gospel Church that evening (May 18th) for only $10 and is open to the whole family.

Powerhouse Christian Church is a non-denominational contemporary church located in Wyckoff, NJ serving the towns in the North Jersey (Bergen & Passaic County) region. We are proud to announce Paul Baloche at Powerhouse in partnership with the Bergen County Chapter of the New Canaan Society (www.newcanaansociety.org). Powerhouse holds Sunday morning services at 9:00am & 10:45am in a very casual atmosphere with contemporary music & powerful Gospel-centered preaching. Come and join us on Sunday morning…we look forward to meeting you!

Jesus and the Old Testament

As we looked at Luke 24 this past Sunday, Jesus stated that the Scriptures told of his death and resurrection (verse 25-27, 32, 44-47).  However, Luke 24 does not tell us what specific passages Jesus explained to them.  As we prepare to spend the next several months in the book of Acts in our upcoming series entitled “Ignite,” you will be able to find some of the passages that must have been explained to the disciples by Jesus.  Continue reading

Pick-Me-Up

Google “pick-me-up,” and you will get over sixteen million hits. Many are recipes for herbal or coffee-based drinks.    Others are filled with motivational quotes.   One online dictionary defines pick-me-up as “something that cheers a person up, makes him happy or gives him more energy.”

Did you know that the Bible describes a “pick-me-up” and highly recommends it? Continue reading

Step out of the Boat

Most of us know the Bible story found in Matthew 14:22-36, when Jesus walks on water and invites another disciple, Peter to join him on the water—well, until his fear got the best of him.  There’s really no way to make a huge step out of the boat in your life if you don’t risk something or try something new, correct? Jesus’ disciples held onto their faith as they experienced highs and lows while traveling with him and being part of His mission.

Our new Sunday morning message series began this past week.  It is entitled “Ignite” and I think it will be a very exciting series.  Just think about it for a moment – Today the church worldwide is 2.2 billion in strength.  At least that’s how many consider themselves Christians.  The most amazing thing to consider is this… Continue reading

The Value of a View

What is the value of a great view?

A view from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building, 1,250 ft, will cost you $40 and a long wait in line.  For the more adventurous, the view from the top of Mount Everest will cost you  $70,000.  And the view from outer space is a bargain at $20,000,000.

But, whatever view your whereabouts is giving you today, high or low, cloudy or clear for miles, you are looking at the world through your own worldview. Continue reading

Built to Last

If we’re serious as Christians about raising up a generation of spiritual giants, then we’ll need to take the types of actions that will ensure we are building kids up to weather the storms of life through an unwavering commitment to Christ and His Kingdom.

Our children are facing far greater obstacles to faith than my generation ever faced, and it was hard for us to keep our eyes on Jesus and not falter, so imagine what it’s like for them.

In addition to modeling a Christ honoring lifestyle for the next generation here are some things we as parents, grandparents and caring adults can do to build into the upcoming crop of young men and women. Continue reading
