Every morning, while his son Joseph was in Afghanistan, Joe Fiorito sent a text message
before leaving for work. Most mornings it included the question, “How are you?” These cross-Atlantic messages from Wanaque to Kabul were more than an exchange of information, they were conduits of relationship. And when young Joseph texted back, “Not so good,” his father was not only moved in heart, but moved into action.
The story of PVT Fiorito’s injury and return to NJ were on the front page of our paper Monday. It caught my attention and made me wonder what it would be like to get a text message from God every morning asking me, “How are you?”
